Batman: Gotham Knight

I've become a Batman fan ever since Batman Begins rebooted the film franchise 3 years ago. With anticipation building for The Dark Knight Warner Brothers have released Batman : Gotham Knight a set of six anime stories connecting Batman begins and The Dark Knight. However the noble this movies intentions may seem, these stories are disappointing. Each story has a different type of anime style.

Most of the anime and artwork are very good except for the first one which is just kind of strange. The stories themselves are lacking the Batman grandeur no mystery, no suspense, and little action. Characters like The Scarecrow, Killer Croc, and Dead Shot appear as supernatural villains but unfortunately are poorly used. The overall story adds little to bridge the two movies together. Rent it or watch it online, not worth a buy.

Shark Tale

After seeing the opening today I have to admit...Shark's Tale was one of the corniest movie I've seen in my life...CORNY to the bone. The plot was awesome, and I had laughs, but the writers really tried too hard to make this movie too funny, and they're going to lose international credibility for it...a whole lot.

Let me give you a Jamaican perspective. I'm not taking anything from Ziggy Marley (Ernie) & Doug E. Doug (Bernie); they both couldn't have done the 'Jellyfish Rastas Duo' roles better. But seriously now, both roles were controversially laced with cuss words taken from the Jamaican dialect (thankfully that most Americans don't understand). And so, I felt quite embarrassed listening to the context in how it was done. I'm proud of my Jamaican culture and dialect and that many people would love to learn & experience it. But the writers just can't incorporate cuss words into a kid's movie like that.

It might be funny to some, but it also sends a negative message to the younger audience about different cultures. I wouldn't be surprised if, people walk out on this one when this comes out in the Caribbean.

Soul Eater is a fairly new anime and manga series in which demons weapons and masters work together, attend a school and carry out missions.

The story starts with main characters 'Maka' and 'Soul', Maka being Soul's master and soul being the demon weapon. Soul and Maka are one step away from gaining a high title, yet are disappointed when all their passed hard work is wiped clean by one easy mistake, resulting in them having to start from scratch. As the story progresses, you are introduced to 'Black Star' and his demon weapon 'Tsubaki' and 'Kid' with his demon weapons 'Liz and Patty'.

While watching the series, you will gain some incite into the characters histories.

Soul Eater is a unique series as it manages to be light hearted, entertaining, up-beat and sinister!!! :o Flawless, must see series.

Thundercats - Season 1 & 2

When I was young, there were many television shows on air that I watched and enjoyed. They certainly don't make them like they used to. But there was one show in particular that made me excited. One show that never failed to entertain me and keep me quiet for a while. Thundercats. Even the title sounds intriguing. Thundercats was an original, inventive, dynamic series that was just impossible to dislike. The adventures of these heroic creatures, who resembled something in between a human and a feline, were enjoyable and addictive, and, most of all, great fun.

The plot was well thought out and complex. The planet Thundera is about to be destroyed, and a group of Thunderians are desperate to escape. Along with their leader Jaga, they manage to flee just as Thundera is obliterated. They set a course for the closest world, and all retire to chambers, which halt their ageing. Yet young Lion-O's chamber is faulty, and he ages at the normal speed. Jaga dies as their ship crashes on Third Earth, and Lion-O, now a grown man (or Thundercat rather) is anointed as Lord of the Thundercats. They set up home and build their headquarters, Cat's Lair. Although evil is never far away, namely in the form of Mumm-Ra, a decaying mummy that can transform himself into a fearsome adversary when he wants to conduct his evil deeds. Along with his inept mutants, he constantly attempts to capture the Thundercats. But Lion-O and the team strive for good against evil on Thundera, and their many escapades were chronicled in the ensuing episodes.

The characters in the series were memorable ones, and you could always find a little bit of yourself in one of them. Lion-O was the fearless, honourable leader, who used the Sword of Omens to help him fight his battles. Lion-O, still initially having the mind of a youngster, was guarded by Snarf, a hopeless, clumsy creature (think a cross between a rat and a cat) who thought he was a competent guardian. Obviously, he was useless at it, getting into trouble at every turn. There were many other Thundercats that resided in Cat's Lair. Cheetara, a statuesque woman who had the ability of great speed. Tygra, an agile Thundercat who possessed a deadly whip that made him invisible to his enemies. Panthro, a formidable Thundercat, and also an engineering wizard, having created the Thundertank, amongst other vital weapons. Wilykat and Wilykit, young twins with bags of tricks to deter their adversaries. Rounding off the group was Jaga, who, although dead, occasionally appeared to Lion-O to give him advice.

Looking back, Thundercats may not have been the most impressive television series of its time. The animation was good, but not perfect, and the dialogue could be a little too bland and literal at times. But if you look past these imperfections, you can see that it was a great show, with some remarkable characters and outstanding episodes. I'll certainly never forget it; in fact, I'm still a huge fan today. I doubt I'll ever see anything like Thundercats again, and I do miss it. But Ill always have the memories of coming home after school and being transfixed to the screen, watching Thundercats and having so much fun. Not many shows can do that. One of a kind, and unforgettable.

Ice Age : The Meltdown

Manny, Sid, and Diego are currently living in a large valley surrounded by an enormously high ice wall on all sides. When a water park begins to form, the trio discovers that the ice wall is actually a wall that is barely holding a massive body of water that could flood the valley to nearly a mile underwater. A vulture tells them that there is a boat at the other end of the valley that may save them all, but they only have 3 days to make it or die. Manny is having trouble facing the fact that he may be the last mammoth left.

Along the way, they meet Ellie, a mammoth who thinks she is a possum, and her possum brothers Crash and Eddie. As they begin to travel together, Manny learns, with help from Diego and Sid, that having this new mammoth with them, may not be as bad as Manny makes it out to be while they try to escape the oncoming and continually threatening flood. During their journey, Scrat the sabre-toothed squirrel has his own hilarious adventures that eventually leads to something else entirely.

20,000 years before, our planet is entering an ice age. All kinds of animals begin immigrating to the south, seeking more warm climates. Sid, a sloth who never stops talking is left behind sleeping while everyone else begins the journey to the south. Awaking, he meets Manny, a mammoth who travels to the north, and decides to follow him.

When a humans camp is attacked by tigers, a woman takes her baby and jumps on a river. Before she drowns, the baby is rescued by Manny and Sid. The two animals decide to search for the father and return the baby to him. Diego, one of the tigers that attacked the humans, comes also claiming the baby.

A spin-off of the movie version of the same name, the show follows the lives of the animals on a farm.

If you liked the movie Barnyard like i did, you are not gonna like the series better. the series is basically a diversion of the movie, and is basically about the barn animals' efforts to cope with their barn lives. this is not one of nick's best shows. it's no much compared to the earlier shows on nickelodeon like fairly odd parents and spongebob squarepants.

Back at the barnyard is an okay show, it's not gonna stand out like the other shows did and it might be canceled after a couple of more seasons, but since it's intended for 6-10 year olds, it'll be somewhat amusing to them.

Dragon Hunters

A fantastic tale telling the adventures of two dragon hunters!

This is really average movie. Everything is average, but let me go over main aspects :

Storyline :
There is nothing special in storyline, bunch of fake heroes are sent by local lord to slay biggest dragon ever; somehow it feels like creators of movie adapted ideas from Shrek I; but there is no interesting twist, so story is pretty much straight.

Characters :
I didn't watch 2D series of the this cartoon, but in the movie the characters are poorly created. The producers tried to add some tension between heroes, but it doesn't work; dialogs are not rich and sometimes just meaningless contributing nothing to the content and the progress of the storyline; finally some heroes like a girl and a rabbit seems to be there just for nothing, the movie will not change a lot if they are removed.

Graphics :
Graphics is not that bad, but there are several drawbacks; movement of the characters and general physics is could be done better considering current achievements of CG technology; what is the worst is the facial expression of characters, facial expressions are very rough and limited to few movements of the mouth and the eyes; the environment is mainly dominated by blue, green and orange colors considering the fact that human is most comfortable with those colors.

Music, voice and sound effects :
I watched the English version and must say that voice was the worst part of the movie, the voicing is done poorly and sometimes it is just flat reading without much intonation; they try to fix it by increasing tone of the voice and screaming (especially in case of girl) but it makes movie just annoying sometimes. Music is just average, not good and not bad. Sound effects are done much better than voicing and music: sounds of thunder, flames, building breaking apart, foot steps, background noise, they all done great.

As conclusion I would say that movie is for one time watch when you have nothing else to do and watch. There is really nothing to gain from watching this movie and nothing to lose.

The Little Mermaid - Ariel's Beginning

The plot explores the story of Athena, Ariel's mother, through the narration of Ariel.

Everyone's lovable red-head we all know and loved is back in a new adventure (you who I am talking about) it's Ariel and starring in the first Disney prequel ('cause I wouldn't call it a sequel), setted before she walked on land and married her Prince.

Under the narration of Sebastian, the story starts with King Triton and his wife, Queen Athena, have seven young daughters, the youngest of whom is Ariel. The entirety of the underwater kingdom of Atlantica is filled with joy, music and laughter. The merfolk are shown relaxing in a lagoon above water, and Triton gives Athena a small music box. A pirate ship approaches and they attack, stealing the merpeople's possessions. Everyone escapes except Queen Athena, who is crushed by the pirate ship. Devastated by Athena's death, Triton throws the music box away and bans music from the kingdom. Ten years later, Triton's daughters live under a strict schedule maintained by their governess, Marina Del Rey (an original villianess voiced by Sally Field; and no relations to the two witches what so ever). Marina hates her job and longs for Sebastian's, who is the king's attache. Ariel is frustrated by their current lifestyle, which brings her into conflict with the strict King Triton. During their morning "walk", Ariel tickles her sister Adella with kelp, and she is given the punishment of cleaning barnacles. While carrying out her punishment, Ariel encounters Flounder, a fish, who is making music. That night, Ariel sees Flounder outside the window, and follows him to an underground music club. She is overjoyed by the presence of music, and is shocked when she learns that Sebastian performs at the club. When her presence is revealed, at first all the club patrons flee, but Ariel sings a song explaining her love of music, and she joins the club with an oath...that's all I am telling you all,you will have see it for yourself.

It's great to finally see Ariel's mother Queen Athena, who looks like Ariel; but I can see some differences between mother and daughter: Athena's hair is a different shade of red compare to Ariel, and done up almost like a ponytail. And her eyes I think are green.
Overall, Ariel's Beginning is another excellent Disney OAV (original animated video),and prefect to go with the original film and "Return to the Sea." I love out of Ariel's sisters Alana (pink fin),Arista (red fin),and Attina (orange fin).
